🎉 We are happy to share our new review paper, now published in the International Journal of Electrical Power & Energy Systems:
📄 “A review of resonance stability issues in renewable-dominated power systems: Mechanism-based classification, analysis, and mitigation”
As power systems become increasingly dominated by converter-interfaced renewable generation, resonance stability is emerging as an important yet highly fragmented research topic. Phenomena such as subsynchronous resonance, electromechanical modal resonance, and converter-grid resonance are often studied separately, although they can be understood from a common perspective of strong dynamic coupling between oscillatory modes.
In this review, we:
🔹 propose a mechanism-based four-type classification according to the dominant interacting modal pairs;
🔹 systematically compare the main resonance analysis methods and map them to the resonance types they are best suited to address; and
🔹 organize existing mitigation strategies around three fundamental principles: damping injection, impedance reshaping, and modal detuning.
We hope this review can provide a useful framework for understanding, analyzing, and mitigating resonance phenomena in increasingly converter-dominated power systems.
